Filofax and the Bullet Journal

It’s been a while since I did a post about using my Filofax – in this case my Personal Fusion, and I came across a post on G+ today by Becky of Becky’s Paper Route which has me writing about it again.

I’ve been using a Filofax for a while, and currently have 3. The Personal is the one I carry with me to use on a daily basis, but as you can see, I’ve been seriously under-using it.

Some days DO have notes, but again, nothing extensive (excuse the #essentialtremor blurred picture). Granted, there are days that have more written down, but overall not many.

I even have a year planner, and not one thing noted on it. Planning is not my strong suit, especially for an entire year!

After reading Becky’s post and watching the Bullet Journal vid again, I restructured the bullet icons I was using (I tore up the key I had written, or I’d show you how ridiculous it was), and now it’s not only simpler, but more in tune with what I really need to note.

I’m also going to implement the monthly calendar and monthly task list, something I’ve not used one bit. I think more planning would probably help me, don’t you? 😉 I’ll do an update in a month or so and let you know how it’s going. I’m also using my beloved A5 Chameleon for my healing work, and I’m about to go set up a bullet system for that one, too.

Thoughts for the Day

IMG_0802469 I was looking through my Filofax, and I have a section of quotes from different books, such as The FireStarter Sessions, as well as a blog or two, such as Belle’s.  Ones that jumped out at me were:

“First, get clear on how you want to feel.  Then, do stuff that makes you feel that way.” (TFSS)

“As of today, stop wasting energy trying to sell things to people who don’t want them.” (ToTaD)

“What makes you feel strengthened?  What makes you feel weakened?” (TFSS)

“Stop trying to be good at stuff that makes you feel bad.  Get better at what you’re best at.” (TFSS)

And…”Your most valuable currency is what comes most naturally to you.” (TFSS)

Some pretty powerful quotes, don’t you think?

What comes to mind when you read them?  For me, it’s all this online marketing stuff, which we all know I suck at. 😉  It doesn’t make me feel good to try to sell healing to people who aren’t responsive to it, it doesn’t make me feel strengthened at all…it actually makes me feel weak and needy.

What does make me feel strengthened is writing.  I like to write.  I like to pass on things I’ve read about, experiences I’ve had, life with a Filofax (es) and no smartphone…whatever comes to mind.  Writing has always been my refuge, my ‘go-to’ when I’m stressed or moody (you should read some of the poems I wrote in high school! No wait, you shouldn’t. LOL).  So I’m going to write here more, PLAY more on Twitter, and who knows about G+.  I need more fun in my life, and if that’s what I need to do to get some, then that’s what I’m going to do.

I’m going to be a blogger who is also a healer.

Belly Fat Cure, Again

I’ve mentioned it before, even with my recent, unexpected weight loss, I still want to lose more and have been considering starting it again.  Yesterday I came by this post and decided that, yep, it’s a sign. 😉

Now get this.  I’ve been using a digital scale for a while, and it’s been telling me the same 3-4 lb range for eons.  Ok, a year or so.  The other day I put it away while I was mopping the kitchen floor (it’s the only flat place that isn’t carpeted) and brought it back out this morning to see what it said before I started the BFC today.

I had to step on it 3 times to make sure I was seeing what I was seeing.  It’s FIFTEEN pounds less!!!  I don’t know if something was stuck in the scale or what, but now I’ve lost weight I didn’t know I’d lost (though it had been mentioned to me by others)!!!!

I’m so happy!!!

And I’m going to write my little boxes in my Filofax and start keeping track again!  Who knows, I might wear shorts this summer! 😉

Tips For New Filofax Owners

Now I don’t know if everyone is aware of the huge upsurge in Filofax users, but everywhere I turn on Twitter there’s another mention of them.  And if you search Filofax on youtube, be prepared to spend hours watching vids.  Seriously.  As a result, it’s not only easy to want one, but it’s just as easy to suddenly decide that the one you just purchased, isn’t the right one.  I myself am guilty of that. 😉

So I thought I’d give new owners a few tips that I’ve learned this year:

1: When you receive your new ‘brain’, stop watching videos unless they are about that exact binder.  Believe me, if you don’t follow any other tips, this one alone will help keep you and your bank account sane.

2: Watch Rori’s video.  Her tips will make a big difference in how you use your binder.  And it will simplify everything. ETA: I just rewatched this (it’s 7/31/16), and this is still an incredible video, especially for new planner users. You’ll most likely start with everything you see online, and then realize ‘dang, this is ridiculously too much’. Rori helps you figure out what you truly need.

3: Check out the Homemakers Daily time management blog.  She writes posts that are very helpful and all the result of personal experience.  You may also learn things you don’t want to do with your binder, too. 😉  There are a LOT of other Filofax blogs out there, but this one is all about using it.

4: Use your binder for at least 3 months before deciding if it is the right binder or not.  It’s too easy to decide it isn’t without giving it a proper chance. ETA: 3 years later, I now suggest 6 months. You may start getting antsy around 3 months (especially if you’re glued to youtube vids and Filofax blogs), but give it another 3 months of tweaking your set-up before you truly say, ‘nope, this isn’t the one’. Also…keep that binder. You’d be surprised how many people end up going back to a previous one, and if you sold it, there’s more money out of your pocket for something you already had!

5: Don’t feel you must decorate and go washi-tape crazy.  That’s not everyone’s bag and if you start to believe you aren’t a “real” Filofaxer user unless you do, you’re in big trouble.

6: Do what feels right for YOU.  It’s your binder, no one else’s.

7: Have fun! 🙂

Such A Beautiful Friday!

We had one incredible storm last night!  It started as a lightning storm, then insane thunder and rain to beat the band!  I loved it!!  It kept me awake most of the night, though, and 5 a.m. came awfully early. 😉

Yesterday I made a batch of sun tea with this Detox tea I’d bought a couple weeks ago.

It has kind of an odd taste, so I threw in a bag of peppermint tea and yum!!

I’m frustrated, exhausted, and fed-up with the job hunt, and pray every single day that I can support myself financially doing what I love. So far, it’s still a waiting game, but I haven’t given up hope. 🙂

I took my Fusion to the grocery store the other day, and I’m used to carrying a Metropol in pocket size for my wallet so it was a bit different, but still not a problem overall. The strap makes it easy to stuff receipts in it and not worry about stretching the material around the snap.  I’m interested to see how it goes when I have some cash and put in the back pocket, as you have to undo the strap to get into the pocket. Seems it would have made more sense to separate the two, but then again the money might fall out that way.  Doubtful, but still.

Nothing exciting to tell, it’s just such a glorious day and I felt like writing. 😉

It arrived yesterday!!!  And the inner package is gorgeous!

I quickly made it my own!  The ‘to-do’ lists came along with it (as well as some other stickers), thank you Tracy!!!  I love that they have holes on either side, so you can flip them. 🙂

On the back side I hung the see-through markers I’d been given earlier…I love these! And that’s the back of the tarot card. The stunning Legacy of the Divine deck. 🙂

And since it’s going to act as my wallet, too, I took the strap I’d added to my pocket Metropol and clipped it to these rings. Every binder should have a strap!

I’m really looking forward to using this as my ‘nuts and bolts’ binder and am using my Chameleon more in line with Rori’s video. Woohoo!!!

Filofax Love

I was going to move all my Filofax posts here from my other blog, but decided it was too much work, so only new ones will be here with links to that site. 😉

I decided to stick with the Chameleon – it is SO soft that it’s hard not to keep picking it up!  I had too many pens in it and it caused bulging, as well as difficulty clasping (this picture has gone MIA for some unknown reason).

…and I think I figured out the pen problem.  I removed the orange one (it bled through anyway), and clipped the highlighter to the rings.  Then, I didn’t need the “today” marker because it is easy to find the page now:

You can see my color-coding list that I created, too.  And the lovely post-it’s that my friend sent me with the Chameleon. 🙂

Yesterday I came across this interesting video by Kent from Oz, and thought I’d try it out.  I hand-drew the circle in my planner, and blocked out a bit of time (that has now extended much longer) to work online:

Oh, underneath is the logging system for counting sugars and carbs as in The Belly Fat Cure.

The last change I made was finally putting tags on the dividers.  I just used little arrow-shaped post-its, taped over them, cut off the points, and wrote on them with a Sharpie.  Voila!  The fluorescent pink really stands out. 😉
